Beyond competing for talent: an integrative framework for coopetition in talent management in SMEs

Purpose This paper aims to unpack how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can operationalise coopetition in talent management, addressing ongoing shortages the hospitality industry which were intensified during Covid-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach conceptual draws from literature on management SMEs. Specifically, authors take an interorganisational pool lens develop a framework following principles of open-systems theory. Findings The find that traditional use pools is often impractical for SMEs because lack resources capabilities. Instead, pools, through aid these firms address shortages. identify potential SME at various stages, including attraction, development retention talent. Practical implications Coopetition industries establishing market-thickening pipelines. Through co-attracting, co-developing co-retaining talent, create pools. To coopetition, set prerequisites, catalysts inhibitors must be analysed managed. Originality/value moves debate beyond competition introducing as viable alternative.
